A runner rug is just like any other rug that serves as an adornment at the same as a fabric floor covering. It comes in a multitude of styles, designs, and sizes that suit any area of the house. To preserve its quality, you need to clean them on a regular basis by using any of the following ways:

Shake off

Because of constant contact brought about by regular use, rugs are exposed to filth and dust. Shaking it every now and then would help maintain clean surroundings and at the same time delay its wear and tear.

Use vacuum cleaner

Regular vacuuming is essential in keeping your rugs in good condition. Since rugs are good absorber of dusts and dirt, it is imperative to clean them once a week. This is not only for maintenance sake, but for the benefit of the homeowners, so that the place will be allergen-free.

Perform spot cleaning

In case there is accidental spilling of food, never allow a single second to pass without removing the stain. To loosen the grimes, scrape excess debris and sprinkle few drops of water. You may also use lemon, vinegar or salt solution since they are believed to be milder, yet effective in stain removal. Never overdo it because too damp fabric will promote growth of bacteria. Aside from removing soil, do not forget to eliminate foul odor as well by sprinkling baking soda while, allowing it to settle down overnight. To remove excess moist, use paper towels or napkins to allow quick drying.

Do manual washing

To be safe, use a water hose to drench the entire rug with water. Use a cleaner especially made for rugs and carpets because this contains no harsh chemicals. You can also make your own concoction by diluting a detergent solution at home. Scrub lightly and remove excess water by allowing it to drip. Never be happy with half-dry or damp rug since it encourages accumulation of germs and build-up of unpleasant odor.

Apply solution

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to remove the stains, your effort is rendered useless. Stubborn stains need the use of solvent more than just simple scraping. However, make certain that you do not apply chlorinated solution since this will definitely result to damage and discoloration.

Dry cleaning

Before you proceed with the cleaning, always check the manufacturer’s label for instructions on how to clean the rug. If allowed, do not hesitate to call for a professional help since they are more experienced and skilled when it comes to persistent stains.
