Window cleaning is one thing but keeping the windows clean can be another story. There are some things that you can do that will help keep windows looking good.
Most people are not aware that glass sealant products will provide a protective barrier. Sealants are polymer based and help protect the window glass at a molecular level. They work by putting a protective film over the windows to help keep them from spotting. Some of the specific protection guarantees from sealant manufacturers are that they will protect the glass from:
1. Rainwater spotting
2. Dust, pollen and other airborne pollutants
3. Hard Water mineral deposits
The protective coating not only helps repel water to keep the window from spotting, it also fills in the tiny imperfections or scratches on the glass to help the glass sparkle and look like new.
The lack of publicity regarding polymer based glass sealants is unfortunate as they work well and make a significant difference in the window appearance. Personally, I find window cleaning hard work but do get satisfaction from a job well done. At least I thought the windows looked great until I used a sealant and saw a significant difference in the way the windows looked.
The last benefit to polymer sealants is the ability to help reduce soap or water bleed on vinyl windows. Water tends to get trapped in the sides of the vinyl and then runs onto the glass after the glass has been cleaned. It’s an annoying problem with vinyl windows although they’ve gotten better in the last few years. The polymer helps with this problem by filling the tiny spaces in the glass that helps trap water. Filling the tiny imperfections in the glass helps prevent the water from being trapped in the sides of the vinyl frame.
Using glass protectants as part of your window cleaning process, can keep glass looking clean and shiny for 6 – 12 months.
